The first 150-lap Busch Series race took place at the Bristol Motor Speedway in 1982, with Phil Parsons emerging as the winner. However, the race was not conducted in 1984. Since then, the race distance has been extended several times. It grew to 200 laps in 1985, then to 250 laps in 1990, and finally reached 300 laps in 2006.

The race format was changed in 2016 to incorporate two 50-lap heats and a 200-lap feature, for a total of 300 laps, as part of the Xfinity Dash 4 Cash program. However, this format was not reinstated when the new stage structure was put into place in 2017. The races went back to their original 300-lap format instead. The race was divided into three stages, with the first two being 85 laps each. The third stage concluded with 130 laps.
